Y&R Interactive Tel Aviv | Maor | Internet Shutdown
|
On July the 12th, 2006, two Israeli soldiers were abducted by Hezbollah. MAOR, a non-profit organisation, wanted to keep the issue
a national priority. With Y&R Interactive, they invited Israel's major websites to stop all activity for five minutes, exactly one year after
the kidnapping. Only the message 'the soldiers cannot be found' (resembling the web text 'the page cannot be found') was displayed.
On July the 12th, 2007, the Israeli internet came to a standstill. Over 400 sites joined in, including the country's top companies.
In solidarity, local television and radio networks also stopped broadcasting. Awareness of the campaign reached some 65%
of the population. |
