The Madrid City Council wanted to engage with its citizens during the festive season. A unique event took shape: the creation of
a 'wishing tree' that grew along with people's hopes for the future. Passers-by were encouraged to write down their dreams for 2008 onto
helium balloons, which were then added to a specially built structure, in the city's Retiro Park.
The top of the 32m high 'tree' was eventually opened during a special event, releasing all the balloons - and wishes - into the sky.
Over 120 000 people participated during the course of the promotion, with some 40 000 attending the final event. |
